Jennifer finds herself in Siberia in the past, and is allowed to stay and
remain free. As she tries to make this world she found herself in
feel like home, her relationship with the KGB slowly changes from
suspicion to loyalty and trust. She learns how to fight Sergey, a man
whose life she saved. She plays RPGs with Joshua, a friend from her
time. The situation changes when she is attacked, and eventually she
is no longer playing games, but actually trying to help her adopted
country as she tries to determine what is actually the best action.
Interconnected is her desire to return to the place she had first
arrived in the past. While she can't find her way home, she starts to
develop special abilities. Others from her time also seem to develop
these powers, and they are not necessarily on her side.
My
intention is not to show a typical superhero or action-adventure type
story. I want to show the complexities of the situation, including an
aspect where these two individuals were recruited in part due to the
influence of American indoctrination (portraying the security state
as heroes). In addition, my focus is on character development - evolution through time, the characters adapting to their unusual situation, and why and how people end up making certain choices - rather than producing action scenes.
The storytelling format will have story arcs to move the main story forward but may
also be able to be considered as independent stories themselves. I am formatting this as a picture book rather than graphic
novel as this format is suited better to the method of storytelling and
the pace I would like the story to flow. I also intend for things to take time, so there will be time skips which will be indicated by the date of each event. The rate of time flow in the story will probably never keep up with the rate of time flow outside of it, although being set in the past, that is probably unimportant.
